Come in Character at Monday’s Halloween Reading Party 👻📚

Hi Readers!

Our next Asheville Reading Party is Monday, October 26, and we’re celebrating Halloween with an optional literary costume contest!

Character Study has transformed into Scare-acter Study for the season, with spooky decorations throughout the bar. It’s the perfect setting for an evening of quiet reading and literary costumes.

If you’d like to participate in the contest, come dressed as a favorite book character—and bring the book that inspired your costume. The first five readers to enter will receive a complimentary drink courtesy of Otterpine, and the first ten will receive a very cute Otterpine enamel pin.

Costume contest prizes include:

• A $50 gift card to Malaprop’s
• A $50 gift card to A Thousand Loves Bookshop
• A $25 gift card to Character Study
• Bragging rights—and a few other treats!

Costumes are completely optional. Dress up or come as you are. Either way, bring something to read. No tricks—just books and treats.

We’ll also have our ongoing community book swap. Bring one or two books you’re ready to pass along, then take home the same number of new-to-you books. Participation is optional, and any books left behind will return for our next swap.

📅 Monday, October 26
🕠 5:30–7:30 PM
📍 Scare-acter Study
797 Haywood Road, West Asheville

Come at 5:30 to find a seat, grab a drink, and settle in. We’ll read quietly together from 6–7 PM, then stay to talk books, swap recommendations, browse the book swap, or keep reading—whatever feels right.

Register here if you’re planning to join us. Registration isn’t required and does not reserve a seat, but it helps us know how many readers to expect.

We can’t wait to read together!
